A guide to chartering a yacht in the Aeolian Islands exploring the likes of Portorosa, Lipari and Stromboli.
Aeolian Islands Yacht Charter Guide
The Aeolian Islands, named after Aeolus, the ancient Greek god of the winds, are a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea, just north of Sicily. These seven islands, along with numerous uninhabited islets, were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000, and it's easy to see why.
With crystal-clear waters, rugged coastlines, smoldering craters, and black-sand beaches, the Aeolian Islands are a paradise for island hopping. Each island has its unique charm, offering something special for every traveler.

Stromboli
Stromboli is home to one of Italy's three active volcanoes, which constantly spews rock and ash into the sea. Charter yachts often circle the island to watch the dramatic volcanic activity. For thrill-seekers, a two-and-a-half-hour hike to the volcano’s crater offers a unique sight of molten lava.
Alicudi and Filicudi
Alicudi and Filicudi are the most remote islands, each an extinct volcano rising from the sea. Alicudi is peaceful, with no roads and donkeys as the primary mode of transportation. Spend an afternoon exploring the little town and its simple painted dwellings.
Filicudi is considered the most beautiful of the islands, known for its deep aquamarine waters and secret caves. The Grotta del Bue Marino (Cave of the Monk Seal) is perfect for snorkeling, offering a luminous display of reflected sunlight.
Vulcano
Vulcano is becoming increasingly popular with travelers thanks to its hot springs and stunning black sand beaches. For a bit of rejuvenation, try the natural sulfurous mud baths right at the water’s edge, known for their therapeutic benefits. If you’re up for a hike, the Gran Craters are an hour’s walk from the Porto di Ponente anchorage and offer impressive views of a volcano crater.
A yacht charter around the Aeolian Islands provides an unforgettable adventure, blending natural beauty, unique landscapes, and a touch of volcanic excitement.
